Overview

Located in Southeast London, the site originally consisted of a double garage at the front and a double-story, three-bedroom house at the rear. The existing house was designed with an unconventional layout, featuring living quarters on the ground floor and a living room/kitchen on the first floor.

The project proposal aims to reconfigure the house layout to a more traditional configuration. The objective is to create an open-plan kitchen and connect the existing garages to the house through a playroom. The ground floor will also include a WC, a service room, and a home office. On the first floor, a main bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe will be created. A mezzanine platform with a relaxation area will offer views of the surrounding gardens. Two additional bedrooms, one with a mezzanine platform, a bathroom, and a family living room will complete the first floor. The levels will be connected by a feature stair overlooking the front garden, while the back garden will be enhanced with a new BBQ/swimming pool area.

The design focuses on opening up the spaces and maximizing window openings to flood the house with natural light, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas. Careful consideration was given to the selection of materials, prioritizing sustainability, fast construction, and high-quality surface finishes. The main extension envelope will be constructed using SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) panels with Siberian larch cladding and a green roof. The feature stair will be constructed using Cross Timber Laminate (CTL), adding an architectural element to the design.

Overall, the project aims to transform the existing house into a more functional and visually appealing space, with an emphasis on sustainability and quality craftsmanship.
